Palm Gardens Vet is run primarily as an allopathic small animal clinic as both vets qualified at Onderstepoort. However, Dr. Flaschner attended a 3-year homeopathic course run by world-renowned homeopath, Dr David Lilley. Many animals are treated both allopathically and homeopathically. (e.g. all trauma cases are given arnica.) Dr Flaschner also accepts appointments for animals to be treated on a strictly homeopathic basis only. If you are interested in homeopathic treatment for your pet, please make sure that Dr. Flaschner himself will be in as the vets consult in a roster system. Large animals i.e. horses and wildlife respond well to homeopathic remedies and help can be given for resistant colic and extra help in horse sickness. |

Dr Jan Still is practising acupuncture in horses, dogs and cats in Fourways, north of Johannesburg. Apart of being a fully qualified veterinary surgeon, he has internationally recognised certification in veterinary acupuncture, and a master’s degree in veterinary anaesthesiology. Acupuncture has been found to be very useful in the management of a number of clinical conditions and ailments including: - Muscular-skeletal pain due to arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia in dogs; sore back, etc.
- Sport injuries in canine and equine athletes (strained muscles and ligaments). These injuries are often associated with lameness and poor performance
- Injuries to nerves (muscle paresis and paralysis)
- Allergic skin conditions characterized by hot itchy skin. Acupuncture treatment is indicated especially in cases when the use of drugs is associated with side effects, or it is otherwise undesirable.
Initially, each animal is thoroughly examined using conventional ("Western") and acupuncture ("Eastern") methods of examination. Depending on the nature of the problem, 2 to 5 acupuncture treatments are given during a period of 1 to 3 weeks. |
